I have given many talks over the past few years. These are mainly on Sussex history, and although well-researched and factual, they lean towards the humorous and entertaining.

My latest talks include 'A Turbulent History of Pub Life in Lewes'. This examinines the life around the many pubs in Lewes town during the turn of the 20th century, and delves into the police court reports, revealing a humorous collection of tales of drunken behaviour.

Another current talk is entitled 'A Sporting History of Sussex: from the amazing to the bizarre'. This takes a look at the many unusual sporting activities within the county over the past 200 years; from jingling matches to menagerie races.

I have spoken for many organisations and societies, including the Lewes History Group, Alfriston & Cuckmere Valley Historical Society, Billingshurst Local History Society and the Ringmer History Group.

However, I am also branching out into 'comedy/history' gigs, giving shorter versions of the above talks, but focussing more on the hilarious episodes of Victorian and Edwardian history. These I have given at The Bavard Bar and The Catalyst Club.

My next scheduled talks are -

Wednesday 27th September 2017 - East Dean & Friston Local History Group - 'A Sporting History of Sussex: from the amazing to the bizarre'

Wednesday 25th October 2017 - Society of Genealogists (London) - 'Understanding Rural Migration in Late 19th Century England'

Writer

Although I have produced much academic work on migration patterns in the 19th century, I also write about local history for various publications. I have a regular spot in Viva Lewes on the old pubs of Lewes, and have also written other articles for them on Samuel Medhurst (Lewes millwright), the city of Lewes, Delaware, USA, and The Miller's Walk in Lewes.

I have also written an article related to my bizarre Sussex sports talk for the online magazine Eurogamer
